Minister Muttaqi: Host countries should allow Afghan migrants to settle accounts

KABUL: Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the need for host countries to provide Afghan migrants with the opportunity to settle their accounts, according to a statement from the Ministry on Saturday.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

According to the statement, the acting minister stated that Afghan migrants should have the chance to settle their financial matters, sell, or transfer their belongings, especially as conditions in Afghanistan remain extremely harsh and require more facilities.

He highlighted that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan fully supports returning migrants, although many challenges persist.

Muttaqi noted that the increasing difficulties have heightened the need for international assistance.

The statement also mentioned that the UNHCR chief assured that he would closely monitor the situation of returning Afghan migrants and provide them with comprehensive support.

Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi assured Grandi of full cooperation in these efforts.

The UNHCR chief arrived in Afghanistan today on an official visit.
