KABUL: following acknowledgement of the world countries regarding reduction of cultivation, production, trafficking, and sale of drugs in Afghanistan, Thomas West, the Special Representative of the United States for Afghanistan, states that poppy cultivation has decreased by 95% in the country.
The Special Representative of the United States said on his X account Friday that, based on findings of the United Nations, drug cultivation declined by 95% in the country.
“The participating countries in the UN-led Doha meeting supported reduction in drug cultivation in Afghanistan” he added.
During Doha meeting, discussions were held on ways to support Afghan farmers and seek alternatives to drugs, according him.
West, also pointed to the need for further coordination in this regard.
Previously, the Special Representative of the European Union also acknowledged that the Islamic Emirate has made significant achievements in the fight against drugs.
