Otunbayeva’s visit to East: UNAMA Chief highlights need for aid to earthquake victims before winter

KABUL: Two weeks after the deadly and devastating earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, Roza Otunbayeva, the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), visited affected families in the region.
According to a statement from UNAMA today, following the meeting with earthquake victims, she emphasized the importance of aid from humanitarian organizations before the onset of winter.
Otunbayeva praised the courage of those affected by the recent earthquake in the eastern provinces. In the statement, she stated: “Without the necessary funding, the lives of affected people in the upcoming winter will be at serious risk.”
Previously, the United Nations mentioned that $139 million is needed to assist families affected by the earthquake in eastern Afghanistan.
The organization has urged its partners to take action to provide the requested funds.
