UNAMA chief meets local officials of Kapisa

KABUL: Georgie Gagnon, the acting head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), has visited Kapisa province and met with local officials.
The media office of the Kapisa governor reported today that the purpose of the visit was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the political and economic situation in Kapisa.
Mawlavi Asadullah Senan, the Deputy Governor of Kapisa, provided information regarding the economic conditions of the residents and the damages caused by natural disasters.
He assured Gagnon regarding the political situation in Kapisa but expressed the need for assistance to support the residents economically.
Following this, the UN official visited the Department of Information and Culture in Kapisa, where officials requested UNAMA’s support for media development, preservation of historical artifacts, and restoration efforts.
The press release from the Department of Information and Culture stated that Gagnon assured them of the UN’s commitment to supporting media initiatives and capacity-building.
Kapisa is one of the provinces located north of Kabul, and its central areas are home to historical sites dating back 2,500 years.
