Border closure increases pressure on Islamabad; Sadiq Khan meets with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa traders

KABUL: Following the ongoing closure of border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan, several leaders from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce have met with Muhammad Sadiq, Pakistan’s special representative for Afghanistan.
Khan said in a statement on his X account on Tuesday night, that the meeting was attended by traders and their representatives from tribal regions, including the President of the Durand Line Trade Council, Khyber Trading Chamber, North Waziristan Chamber, Kurram Trade Chamber, and other sectors from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He stated that he met with these individuals to discuss how cross-border terrorism impacts trade and the livelihoods of people on both sides of the Durand Line (Pakistan-Afghanistan).
The continued closure of border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan has seemingly intensified pressures on Islamabad.
Additionally, images that went viral on social media have sparked increasing criticism from Pakistani farmers and growers of the government, particularly amid rotting fruits and vegetables.
It has now been over 50 days since the border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan were closed.
