Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan and Tajikistan discuss ties amidst efforts to undermine relations

KABUL: Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has held a telephone conversation with his Tajik counterpart, Sirajuddin Mehruddin.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement today, that the discussions centered around bilateral political relations, economic cooperation, border status, security coordination, and regional initiatives.

The Foreign Minister stated that Kabul and Dushanbe are currently focused on building trust through political, economic, and security collaborations, but some circles are attempting to undermine those efforts.

Minister Muttaqi condemned the recent attacks on Chinese citizens in Tajikistan, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts for regional stability.

He added that the Islamic Emirate is fully prepared to enhance security at the borders and facilitate any joint investigations.

The statement noted that Sirajuddin Mehruddin referred to Afghanistan and Tajikistan as brotherly countries with shared historical, religious, and cultural values, expressing full support for border coordination.

He emphasized that Tajikistan is committed to maintaining positive engagement with the Afghan government.

Both parties agreed to regular communications between border forces and to convene joint security committee meetings.

Recently, political relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have been reestablished.
