Afghanistan and Russia neighboring countries Special Representatives meeting begins in Tehran

KABUL: Iranian state media reports that a meeting of “Special Representatives from Afghanistan’s and Russia’s Neighboring Countries” hosted by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, began today.

The Iranian news agency IRNA reported today that Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister, stated in the opening ceremony that the development and prosperity of Afghanistan are intertwined with the interests of all neighboring countries.

Delegations from Pakistan, Russia, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan are participating in the meeting.

Discussions and exchanges regarding Afghanistan are on the agenda of this gathering. The report notes that recent tensions between Kabul and Islamabad, while not the sole focus of the Tehran meeting, are considered a key topic.

The meeting is taking place without a delegation from the Afghan government.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced two days ago that it would not participate in this meeting due to the existence of effective regional formats and organizations.
