Afghan-French officials discussed strengthening health cooperation between Kabul and Paris

KABUL: During an official visit to Qatar, Mawlavi Abdul Wali Haqqani, Deputy Minister for Public Health, met with the Chargé d’Affaires of France to enhance health cooperation between Afghanistan and France.

The Ministry of Public Health stated that in the meeting, attended by Suhail Shaheen, the Afghan ambassador to Qatar, and several embassy officials, they discussed the current needs of Afghanistan’s health sector, its achievements, and ways to develop bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the French government for its past support in Afghanistan’s health sector, calling the assistance invaluable.

He also called for sustainable and long-term support for Afghanistan’s health sector, particularly for expanding technical coordination within the framework of the “FMIC” hospital.

Additionally, they discussed the establishment of training programs to enhance the capacity of Afghan doctors, professional development, and the sending of French doctors to Afghanistan.

The Afghan delegation emphasized that the health services at “FMIC” should become more affordable and accessible for the Afghan people.

On the other hand, the French Chargé d’Affaires reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Afghanistan’s health sector, noting that France will continue its health cooperation through “FMIC.”

He added that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the foundation of “FMIC,” which serves as a testament to successful and enduring health cooperation between the two nations.
