JALALABAD: The personnel of the forest protection unit of the Nangarhar police, detained six individuals on charges of illegal logging of trees in the province.
Sayed Tayab Hammad, the provincial police spokesman, said the individuals were detained in the Tangi Wazir area of Kogyani district during an operation while actively cutting trees illegally and later confessed to the crime.
According to the police statement, the case will be forwarded to judicial authorities after investigations for further legal action.
Forests are considered national assets in Afghanistan, and a special unit under the Ministry of Interior has been established to protect and preserve them.
