KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States has so far received more than 80 million barrels of crude oil from Venezuela.
Trump described Venezuela as a “new friend and partner” of the United States, adding that economic relations between the two countries are expanding.
He said Washington had previously indicated that if a new situation emerged in Caracas following the arrest of Nicolás Maduro on Jan. 3, the United States would exercise broad control over Venezuela’s oil sales and revenues.
According to Trump, U.S. oil companies are expected to invest around $100 billion to reactivate Venezuela’s energy sector.
He added that the benefits of the investment would be shared among the Venezuelan people, the United States, and the companies involved.
