Over 183,000 tons of goods transported via railways in Afghanistan in past week

KABUL: The Afghan railway lines transported 183,187 metric tons of goods across the country during the past week, according to officials from the Ministry of Public Works of Afghanistan.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesperson for the ministry, in a statement said on Sunday, both export and import goods were transported through railway lines at the ports of Hairatan, Aqina, Torghundi, and the Khaf–Herat Railway.
“121,087 metric tons of goods were transported through Hairatan Port, 15,590 metric tons through Aqina Port, 21,350 metric tons through Torghundi Port, and 25,160 metric tons via the Khaf–Herat railway line,” said the statement adding that the shipments included both petroleum and non-petroleum goods. Of the total volume, 390 metric tons were Afghan export goods, the majority of which consisted of dried fruits.
Statistics from the ministry also show that railway transportation in Afghanistan increased by 33 percent during the first ten months of the current year compared to the same period last year.
