KABUL: Turkish authorities have detained 57 Afghan migrants on suspicion of illegal entry, local media reported.
According to reports, the migrants were discovered inside a truck in the city of Rize, located in northeastern Turkey.
Police stopped the vehicle at a checkpoint and took the migrants into custody. They have since been transferred to a police facility, where administrative procedures for their deportation to Afghanistan are underway.
The truck driver was also arrested on charges of migrant smuggling, and legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
The arrests come amid ongoing concerns over irregular migration routes used by Afghan nationals seeking to enter Turkey.
