KABUL: Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, has strongly condemned the continued closure of border crossings between Pakistan and Afghanistan, and India.
The News (Pakistan) reported Tuesday morning that at a press conference, Fazl-ur-Rehman said the prolonged shutdown of these crossings has constrained Pakistan’s trade and international connectivity. He said, “We have no personal enmity with anyone, but we consider this government illegitimate,” criticizing both the government and those supporting it.
The religious leader warned that while Pakistan’s borders with Afghanistan and India remain closed, Pakistan’s neighbors are using alternative routes to reach global markets. He also announced his party’s next steps: a “large public gathering” to be held in the Mardan area in five days (April 12) to lead nationwide protests against the government’s policies.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam is a major political party in Pakistan with a prominent role in the country’s politics and parliament.
