Iran’s Supreme National Security Council approves a two‑week ceasefire with the U.S.

KABUL: Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has agreed to halt attacks on U.S. targets in the region for two weeks and to permit passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, announced the council’s decision this morning in an official statement on X on behalf of the Supreme National Security Council.
Araghchi said that if attacks against Iran stop, “our powerful armed forces” will suspend their defensive operations.
The statement says that for a period of two weeks safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible, coordinated with Iran’s armed forces and subject to technical limitations.
According to the Foreign Minister, Tehran’s agreement responds to a request from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and takes into account a U.S. request to negotiate based on a 15‑point proposal.
Under the U.S.–Iran agreement, a two‑week ceasefire will take effect from midnight (Wednesday, 19 Hamal) Tehran time between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
