KABUL: Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has welcomed the reported two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, calling it a moment of relief for the region and the world.
In a message posted on X on Wednesday, Starmer said London and its partners must do everything possible to support and sustain the truce, with the aim of turning it into a lasting agreement and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, the foreign ministry of Oman also welcomed the ceasefire announcement, thanking all parties involved in facilitating the agreement.
In its statement, Oman stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to find lasting solutions that address the root causes of the crisis and lead to a permanent end to hostilities in the region.
Some reports indicate the ceasefire was finalized at the last moment with involvement from JD Vance, U.S. vice president, and China.
