KABUL: Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, has warned that oil exports from the Persian Gulf will be halted if the United States continues what Tehran describes as an “economic war.”
Rezaei said that if economic pressure persists, “not a single drop of oil” would be exported through the Strait of Hormuz or other points in the Persian Gulf.
He also warned that Iran would consider any country that supports or participates in U.S. economic pressure against Tehran to be taking a “war action.”
The remarks come amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington over sanctions and economic pressure, with the strategic Strait of Hormuz remaining a major point of contention.
