KABUL: Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb says Islamabad has requested a $10 billion currency swap facility from the United States to ease pressure on the foreign-exchange market and strengthen investor confidence.
Aurangzeb said talks with Washington are progressing constructively and that Pakistan expects to receive a response within the coming months.
He said Pakistan aims to reduce recurring balance-of-payments problems by increasing exports and diversifying its sources of financing, while creating conditions for a return to international financial markets.
The minister emphasized that the requested facility is not intended as a conventional loan, but rather as a mechanism to support financial stability and strengthen confidence among international investors.
