KABUL: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says his government has taken new economic measures that have prevented the United States from achieving the objectives of its economic pressure campaign against Iran.
Pezeshkian wrote on X on Sunday that the aim of what he described as an “economic war” was to cut Iran’s vital economic lifelines and increase pressure on the Iranian people.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has said Iran has been “completely beaten” and has abandoned efforts to acquire nuclear weapons. Trump has also said Washington still has decisions to make regarding Iran and that it remains unclear whether the issue will be resolved “the easy way or the hard way.”
Tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high over Iran’s nuclear program, U.S. economic measures and the possibility of renewed military action. Recent reports indicate that negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict and easing economic and shipping restrictions remain subject to significant disagreements.
