MOSCOW: Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Sergei Shoigu, secretary of Russia’s Security Council, to discuss bilateral relations, regional security and security cooperation.
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on X that the two sides emphasized strengthening security cooperation, combating narcotics, continuing political consultations and expanding economic and trade relations between Afghanistan and Russia.
Muttaqi, referring to the positive trajectory of political relations between the two countries, thanked the Russian leadership for recognizing the Islamic Emirate and said Afghanistan would continue its efforts to ensure regional security and prevent drug trafficking.
Shoigu described relations between Afghanistan and Russia as expanding across various sectors and stressed the continuation of political consultations and practical cooperation between the two countries.
