LASHKARGAH: The construction work on a major bridge over the Helmand River in Lashkargah, the capital of Helmand province, has begun, at a cost of $3.2 million, the governor’s press office said in a statement today.
In a ceremony, held on this occasion was attended by the governor of Helmand, deputy ministers of the Interior and Information and Culture, as well as a number of local officials, said the statement.
According to the statement, the bridge will be 340 meters long and 9 meters wide, and will connect Lashkargah to the Kandahar-Herat highway via the Babaji district of Helmand province.
The construction is expected to be completed within the next eighteen months.
The Helmand provincial officials stated that this bridge will facilitate transportation and the livelihoods of residents in the area.
Helmand is a vast province in the south of the country, through which a raging river flows.
