Israel backs two-week U.S.-Iran ceasefire, says strikes on Lebanon will continue

KABUL: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his support for the two‑week U.S. ceasefire with Iran, but says strikes on Lebanon will continue, media reported.
The Associated Press wrote early today that Netanyahu’s office issued a statement backing the U.S.–Iran agreement.
Although Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s statement mentioned a halt to attacks on both Iran and Lebanon, Netanyahu said Israel will continue operations in Lebanon.
Netanyahu’s office emphasized that Israel’s acceptance of the two‑week pause in attacks on Iran is conditional on reopening the Strait of Hormuz during that period and on Tehran halting strikes against Israel and U.S. targets in the region.
The statement also said Israel supports U.S. efforts to ensure Iran is no longer a nuclear threat.
About 40 days ago, Israel alongside the United States launched its heaviest strikes against Iran; during that period Iran’s armed forces have mounted sustained missile and drone attacks on Israel in more than 90 waves.
