HERAT: Spokesperson of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said in a statement on Tuesday that it has signed a contract worth $10.2 million for the development of salt deposits in Ghoryan district of Herat province, marking a significant step in the country’s mining sector.
The agreement covers Block Three of the Namaksar salt site and has been signed by Mawlavi Abdul Rahman Qanit, Deputy Mines and Petroleum Minister, and representatives of Obaid Ayoub Nouri Limited.
The contract includes a royalty payment of 1,500 Afghanis per ton and will remain in effect for 15 years, provided that the company fully complies with national mining laws, regulations, and contractual commitments, the statement said.
According to the statement, in addition to financial obligations, the company is required to fulfil social responsibility commitments and adhere to environmental protection standards.
Authorities further noted that the project is expected to generate hundreds of job opportunities for local residents, contributing to economic activity and employment in the region.
