KABUL: Nooruddin Azizi, Afghanistan’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, and his accompanying delegation in the Namangan region of Uzbekistan planted a symbolic “Afghan–Uzbek Friendship Tree” during an official visit.
According to a statement from the ministry on Wednesday, the visit also included tours of textile facilities to explore advanced technologies in cotton processing.
Officials from both sides discussed expanding bilateral trade and increasing Afghan exports, particularly cotton and coal to Uzbekistan.
Azizi encouraged Uzbek investors to invest in Afghanistan’s textile industry, mineral processing, and pharmaceutical production.
The Afghan delegation also met with representatives from the agriculture and livestock sector, traders, and cotton industry stakeholders, as well as Namangan officials, to exchange experiences on modern cotton cultivation methods and improving yields.
The visit follows a recent trip by Namangan’s governor and a group of Uzbek investors to Afghanistan, where several trade agreements were signed with Afghan businesses.
