Regional environmental summit “2026 RES” opens in Kazakhstan

ASTANA: The regional environmental summit “2026 RES” has officially opened in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, bringing together leaders and representatives from countries across the region and beyond.
According to reports, the summit was inaugurated by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, and is being hosted by the country’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in cooperation with the United Nations.
The summit is seen as a major platform for advancing coordinated regional strategies on environmental protection, including ecosystem conservation, water and land management, and biodiversity preservation in Central Asia.
The event began with a high-level leaders’ session and will continue with eight thematic programs focusing on climate transition, food security, sustainable resource management, and environmental innovation.
Participants are also expected to engage in 58 sessions, including discussions on establishing an international water organization under the UN framework.
The summit is set to conclude with key documents, including a joint declaration on “Central Asian Environmental Solidarity” and an action plan for 2026–2030.
A green technology exhibition is being held alongside the summit, featuring hundreds of companies and thousands of visitors from around the world.
A delegation from Afghanistan, led by Mati-ul-Haq Khalis, President of the National Environmental Protection Agency, is also participating in the event.
