11 people rescued from starvation and dehydration risk in Helmand deserts

LASHKARGAH: The provincial officials of Helmand say 11 people, including women and children, were rescued from the risk of death caused by hunger and dehydration in the desert areas of the province.

The Helmand governor’s media office said on Thursday that the rescued individuals included one man, four women, and six children.

According to the statement, the vehicle carrying the group broke down due to technical problems in the “Kashti Nafas Khan” area of Nawa District, leaving them stranded in extreme heat without food or drinking water.

The statement added that, following instructions from Helmand provincial authorities, the district governor and police chief of Nawa personally traveled to the area with food supplies and clean drinking water and rescued those stranded.

A vehicle mechanic was also reportedly dispatched to repair the technical issue.

Helmand, located in southern Afghanistan, is one of the country’s largest provinces and is known for its vast deserts and extremely hot weather.
