Agriculture Minister asks Indian investors to help modernize agriculture sector

KABUL: The country’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Mawlavi Ataullah Omari, has invited Indian investors to participate in the modernization of Afghanistan’s agricultural sector through investment, technology transfer, and innovation.

Speaking at the India–Afghanistan Business Opportunities conference in New Delhi, Omari noted that nearly 80 percent of Afghanistan’s population depends on agriculture, irrigation, and livestock for their livelihoods, describing the sector as the backbone of the country’s economy, added that Afghanistan offers significant investment opportunities in agricultural mechanization, improved seeds, food processing, cold-chain infrastructure, livestock development, irrigation systems, renewable energy, and rural development.

The conference, organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) with the support of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor, Chargé d’Affaires of the Afghan Embassy in New Delhi, also, highlighted the longstanding ties between the two countries and emphasized new opportunities to expand economic cooperation and attract investment.

Representatives of India’s private sector also expressed their readiness to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, technology, satellite mapping, drone applications, water resource management, and renewable energy, underscoring the importance of modern technologies in boosting bilateral trade and promoting sustainable development.
