KABUL: Agence France-Press reported that negotiations between Israel and Lebanon on the disarmament of Hezbollah and efforts to establish lasting peace could begin in the coming days with mediation from France.
According to the report, Ron Dermer, an envoy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is expected to lead Israel’s delegation at the talks, while France will serve as a mediator.
Sources said the Lebanese government is currently working on selecting members of its negotiating team, though no specific date for the talks has been announced.
At the same time, three Lebanese officials stressed that Beirut considers a “complete ceasefire” by Israel a prerequisite before negotiations can begin.
Earlier, Gideon Sa’ar, Israel’s foreign minister, had rejected reports of any planned negotiations with Lebanon regarding Hezbollah.
