Top Iranian official Larijani lost his life in Tehran strike, council says

KABUL: The Supreme National Security Council of Iran has confirmed that Ali Larijani, its secretary, lost his life in an airstrike in Tehran.

In a statement issued late Tuesday, the council said Larijani lost his life along with his son, Mortaza Larijani, and Alireza Bayat, a deputy within the council’s secretariat, as well as several bodyguards.

The incident follows earlier claims by Israel that Larijani had been targeted in an airstrike.

Israel’s foreign minister said in a briefing that the United States had previously placed a $10 million bounty on Larijani, adding that Israel had carried out the strike without cost.

Larijani was considered one of Iran’s prominent political and security figures.
