KABUL: Based on information from reporters present at U.S.-Iran talks in Islamabad, the negotiations have been extended for a second day and the two sides’ delegations spent 15 consecutive hours discussing and exchanging demands and proposals.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Dr. Ismail Baqaei said this morning that the progress of the talks depends on “seriousness and good intentions” from the U.S. side, and on the other side refraining from “excessive demands and illegal requests.”
In a post on X, Baqaei wrote that so far Tehran and Washington have discussed various main areas of the talks, including the Strait of Hormuz, the nuclear issue, war reparations, lifting sanctions, and “the complete end of the war.” He added that Iran will use all available tools, including diplomacy to secure its interests.
Baqaei further stated: “Iranian negotiators will draw on all their capability, experience, and knowledge to protect Iran’s rights and interests, saying the heavy loss suffered by Iranian dignitaries, loved ones, and fellow citizens has only strengthened Tehran’s resolve to pursue the nation’s interests and rights.
He also said that after a demanding day of talks, Iran has not forgotten and will not forget the United States’ history of “unfaithfulness” and “ill will” toward Tehran.
Despite the negotiations continuing for a second consecutive day, no details about any give-and-take between the two delegations have been released to the public so far.
It remains to be seen what outcome these talks will produce.
