Araghchi: “We were only a few steps away from Islamabad agreement but faced U.S. overreach and shifting terms.”

KABUL: Iran’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, says: “We were only a few steps away from an Islamabad agreement following the recent trilateral talks but then encountered U.S. overreaching, shifting changes to the conditions, and obstacles created by the American side.”
Araghchi made the remarks early this morning on X, in his first statement after the trilateral “Islamabad” talks. He added that “no lesson was learned.”
The Iranian foreign minister said the “Islamabad” talks at the highest level between the United States and Iran over the past 47 years were held with “goodwill” aimed at ending the war.
He wrote: “Good intent brings good results, and hostility brings hostility.”
Earlier, the head of Iran’s delegation to the trilateral Islamabad talks said that during this round, the U.S. had understood Iran’s principles and logic but had failed to gain Tehran’s trust.
Although Iran and the United States are currently in a two-week ceasefire, it is unclear whether it will be extended or lead to a permanent agreement or whether the sides, along with Israel, will return to war.
