Germany opposes any de facto annexation of the West Bank by Israel

KABUL: Germany’s Prime Minister Friedrich Merz says there should be no form of “practical” or de facto annexation of West Bank areas by Israel.
He wrote on his X on Monday, that in a phone call with Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of the occupying regime of Israel, the issue was clearly emphasized.
Merz also added in a (later removed) message on X: “I am deeply concerned about developments in the Palestinian territories.”
According to reports, a spokesperson for the German government told journalists that Merz, during his call with Netanyahu, also urged an end to the war in Lebanon.
The German prime minister further asked Netanyahu to engage in peace talks with Lebanon’s government.
These remarks come as deadly and destructive attacks by Israel in recent weeks on Lebanon have faced harsh criticism from leaders of some countries around the world.
