Vance says deep mistrust between U.S. and Iran cannot be resolved in one night

KABUL: J.D. Vance, Vice President of the United States, has acknowledged that deep mistrust between Washington and Iran cannot be resolved quickly.
According to Al Jazeera, Vance made the remarks on Wednesday night during an event hosted by Turning Point USA at the University of Georgia.
Vance, who recently led 21 hours of talks with Iran, said he remains optimistic about the prospects for an agreement despite the challenges.
He noted that Iranian negotiators had shown willingness to reach a deal and said they were “very satisfied” with the U.S. position in the latest round of diplomatic discussions.
According to Vance, President Donald Trump is not interested in a limited agreement with Tehran but is instead seeking a broader deal.
He added that Washington has conveyed to Tehran that if Iran commits to not developing nuclear weapons, the United States would support the country’s economic prosperity.
His remarks come as Iranian officials have also pointed to a lack of trust following the recent Islamabad talks, saying the U.S. understood Tehran’s position but failed to gain its confidence.
