Pakistan praises ceasefire extension as Iran accuses U.S. of ‘Act of war’

KABUL: Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, in a post on X, thanked Donald Trump for extending the ceasefire with Iran, saying the move supports ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Sharif noted that both he and Army Chief Asim Munir appreciated the decision, expressing hope that it would help pave the way toward a broader peace agreement between Tehran and Washington.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, sharply criticized the United States, calling the naval blockade an “act of war” and a violation of the ceasefire.
Araghchi also condemned the reported seizure of a commercial vessel and the detention of its crew, describing it as a more serious breach.
“Iran knows how to neutralize pressure, defend its interests, and resist coercion,” he said.
Despite the ceasefire extension, Tehran has not officially endorsed the move. Sharif, however, expressed optimism that both sides would adhere to the truce and work toward a comprehensive peace deal.
Planned follow-up talks in Islamabad remain uncertain, as Iran has so far denied sending a delegation to the talks.
