KABUL: The Afghan saffron products once again were ranked first in terms of quality by the International European Union Institute for Spices Studies (EUISS) based in Belgium’s Brussels, the Ministry of Agriculture Irrigation and Livestock said in a statement today.
The International Institute of Taste of the European Union, based in Brussels Belgium, is a world-renowned international body for determining the taste and quality of food products.
On behalf of Afghanistan, Herat’s saffron was tested at the institute, said the statement, adding just like in previous years, Afghanistan’s saffron has once again secured the top rank.
Afghanistan, with its good climate, is suitable for growing and harvesting better saffron crops, as 90 to 95 percent of saffron is grown in the country’s western Herat province, with the authorities saying the plant’s products have recently been increased.
