Japan to provide $10 mln to Afghanistan for counter-narcotics efforts

KABUL: The government of Japan is providing $10 million to aid in for counter-narcotics in Afghanistan, Japan embassy in Kabul said in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, the amount will be spend through the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Badakhshan, Kandahar, and Helmand provinces.

“The funds will be allocated to finance preventive measures against drug abuse, support farmers who previously cultivated narcotics, treat addicts, facilitate rehabilitation, and offer reintegration services,” said the statement adding that Japan will continue its efforts in the area of counter-narcotics support for the people of Afghanistan.
