BEIJING: The head of the Asian Department at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Liu Jin, praised the efforts of the Islamic Emirate in activating the Wakhan Corridor during a meeting with Mawlavi Asadullah Bilal Karimi, the Islamic Emirate’s ambassador in Beijing.
According to a statement from the Afghan embassy in Beijing, Liu expressed China’s readiness to take gradual steps toward activating the Wakhan Corridor.
In the meeting, both sides discussed the continuation of positive political, economic, trade, and transit interactions between Afghanistan and its neighboring countries.
Liu Jin mentioned that following President Xi Jinping’s order, China will waive customs duties on exports, including those from Afghanistan, for 40 countries worldwide starting in January 2025.
He also emphasized increasing activities in the Amu Darya oil sector in northern Afghanistan and the Mes Aynak copper mine in Logar province.
It is noteworthy that China has established strong relations with Afghanistan since the establishment of the Islamic Emirate, with Chinese investors currently investing in Afghanistan’s mines under clear contracts.
