Iran’s Araghchi says Hormuz not closed, blames war risks for shipping disruption

KABUL: Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of Iran, in response to Donald Trump’s remarks said the Strait of Hormuz remains open, adding that disruptions are due to war-related risks rather than Iranian actions.
Writing on X, Araghchi said insurance companies are reluctant to operate because of the conflict between the United States and Israel, not Iran.
He added that freedom of navigation cannot exist without freedom of trade, stressing that both require mutual respect.
“No insurance company and no Iranian will be persuaded by more threats. Try respect instead,” he wrote.
The remarks come after Donald Trump warned that if the waterway is not fully reopened, Iran’s power infrastructure could be targeted.
Senior Iranian officials have since warned of retaliatory actions across the region.
