Qatar maintains ties with Iran despite recent attacks

KABUL: Qatar has maintained its relations with Iran at various levels despite recent attacks, Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said, stressing the need to strengthen dialogue among countries in the region.

Al Thani called for talks between members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Pakistan and Turkey, saying closer economic ties could play an important role in preventing future conflicts.

He cited cooperation between France and Germany through Airbus as an example of economic interdependence, arguing that shared economic interests can reduce the likelihood of disputes between countries.

Al Thani also opposed imposing fees or charges on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, warning that uncertainty over maritime traffic would increase shipping costs and, ultimately, consumer prices.
