KABUL: As forced expulsions of Afghan migrants from Pakistan continue, Qari Din Mohammad Hanif, the Acting Minister of Economy, reports a decrease in assistance from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) compared to last year.
He made the remarks in a meeting of the committee for attracting international aid in Kabul today, Radio Omid correspondent reported.
Qari Hanif stated that 5,000 Afghan migrants, including women and children, were expelled through Torkham just yesterday, urging the IOM to increase its support as it did last year.
“The Islamic Emirate seeks international support for the returnees and a massive influx of migrants back to Afghanistan,” he said, adding, “To better manage these efforts, a committee has been established to mobilize assistance from both Emirati and non-Emirati organizations.”
He also condemned the forced and mass expulsions of Afghan migrants from Pakistan as violations of international norms and reaffirmed the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to providing facilities for the expelled migrants.
Meanwhile, assistance for returning migrants continues through working committees of the High Commission for Refugees’ issues.
