IEA strongly denies U.S. claims of Mahmood Shah Habibi’s detention

KABUL: The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has firmly rejected U.S. claims regarding the detention of Mahmood Shah Habibi, an Afghan citizen in Kabul, stating that he has not been arrested by Islamic Emirate authorities.

Mawlavi Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, in a statement today called the U.S. officials remarks as “allegations.”

He emphasized that Emirate institutions conducted all necessary investigations based on a request from Habibi’s family, but found no evidence of his detention by Emirate authorities.

Mujahid asserted, “All Emirate organs, including the General Directorate of Intelligence, are committed to upholding prisoners’ rights in accordance with the Sharia laws established by the esteemed Amir al-Mu’minin.”

He stated that the Emirate does not need to detain anyone suspected of a crime and keep such actions hidden.

The spokesman mentioned that while some foreign nationals, including Americans, have been detained for violating local laws, they have maintained communication with their families during their detention.

Additionally, a complaints committee for missing persons has been formed, working jointly with intelligence agencies.

It is noteworthy that U.S. authorities have repeatedly raised concerns about Mahmood Shah Habibi’s situation over the past three years.

Recently, the U.S. Justice Department announced a $5 million reward for any information leading to clarifying his fate or identifying his location.
