KABUL: New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has said that if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu travels to New York in September to attend the United Nations General Assembly, his office will examine the legal options regarding the possibility of his arrest.
In an interview with The New York Times, Mamdani said the city’s legal team is actively reviewing the legal dimensions of the matter.
He added that he had pledged during his election campaign to seek Netanyahu’s arrest, describing the Israeli prime minister as someone who should face trial on allegations of war crimes.
The remarks come after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in 2024 for Netanyahu and several other Israeli officials in connection with the war in Gaza.
